Los Alamitos at Newport Harbor (Jan. 14 2008)

The Newport Harbor High surf team defeated Los Alamitos 104-64 in non league competition at 56 th street in Newport. This improved the sailors overall record to 6-1.

Newport won seven of the eight heats and all four events.

The boy’s short board squad won 54-30 while sweeping all four first place positions. Three of the four heats saw the sailors finish first, second and third. The first place finishers were Erik Heimstaedt, Victor Done, Tyler Tarlow, and Bobby Okvist. Done’s 5.6 average wave score was tops for the contest. Finishing second were Canon Call, Jared Cassidy and Graeme Chesnie. Placing third were Chase Wilson, Alex Maddox and Coby Peterson.

The girl’s short board squad won 15-6 and remained undefeated for the year (7-0). Finishing first place for the sixth time this year was Kaleigh Gilchrist (4.6 score). Placing second and third respectively were Elizabeth Eddy and Camille Collett.

The girl’s long board squad won 13-8 and was lead by Collett’s first place finish in her first long board competition this season. Placing third for the winning squad was Hannah Patrick.

The boy’s long board squad won 11-10. Finishing second and third respectively were Michael Maddox and Aaron Cervantes.

The body board squad won 11-10. Finishing second and third respectively were Spencer Ruzicka and Yuji Kanbayashi.
