Current Meet Report

Marina at Newport Harbor (Feb. 7, 2008)

The Newport Harbor High surf team defeated Marina 104-64 in non league competition at 56 th street in Newport. This improved the sailors overall record to 7-1.

Newport won seven of the eight heats and all four events.

The boy’s short board squad won 48-36 while sweeping all four first place positions. The first place finishers were Chase Wilson, Cameron Clark, Tyler Tarlow, and Bobby Okvist. Wilson’s 7.1 average wave score was tops for the contest. Finishing second were Erik Heimstaedt and Graeme Chesnie. Placing third were Canon Call and Mark Contreras.

The girl’s short board squad won 14-7 and remained undefeated for the year (8-0). Finishing first place for the seventh time this year was Kaleigh Gilchrist (6.5 score). Hailey Sandberg took second place in her first short board competition this season.

The girl’s long board squad won 15-9 with a 1-2-3 place finish. Sandberg placed first, Hannah Patrick took second and Courtney Mcphee took third for the winning squad.

The body board squad also had a perfect day with a 15-9 victory. Yuji Kanbayashi took first place, followed by teammates Joe Suzuki and Spencer Ruzicka placing second and third respectively.

The boy’s long board squad won 12-9. Andy Delorme’s 6.4 score secured first place as Robert Guy placed second.

Next up for Newport is Edison on February 13th at 56 th. Street.
