Current Meet Report

Laguna at NHHS (Oct 10 2007)

The Newport Harbor High school surf team opened its season Wednesday morning with a resounding 108-60 victory over Laguna Beach. The Sailors won all eight heats with 6 first, 7 second and 6 third place finishes.

The Boy’s short board squad lost 6 key starters to graduation but this year’s squad consisting of six sophomores and six juniors was up for the challenge. Lead by first place finishers Victor Done, Canon Call and Cameron Clark the team won each of the four heats and a combined score of 55-29. Placing second were Eric Heimstaedt, Jared Cassidy, Graeme Chesnie, and Casey Bushong. Taking third place were chase Wilson, Tyler Tarlow and Bobby Okvist. Done’s average wave score of 4.5 was tops for the competition.

The boy’s long board squad swept the top three positions. Andy Delorme nosed out Michael Maddox for first place with Robert Guy placing third.

The body board squad took the top two positions lead by freshman Joe Suzuki. Placing second was sophomore Yuji Kanbayashi.

The girl’s long board squad was lead by first place finisher Hailey Sandberg. Placing third was senior Courtney McPhee.

The girl’s short board team was lead to victory by second place finisher Kaleigh Gilchrist and third place finisher Camille Collett.

Next meet is at Salt Creek next Tuesday against Dana Hills.
