NHHS at Dana Hills(Oct 16 2007)
The Newport Harbor High school surf team ran its record to 2 and 0 by defeating Dana Hills at Salt Creek by an aggregate score of 94-73. The Sailors won seven of the eight heats.
The Boy’s short board squad lost 6 key starters to graduation but this year’s squad consisting of six sophomores and six juniors was up for the challenge. Lead by first place finishers Victor Done, Canon Call, Tyler Tarlow and Graeme Chesnie the team won each of the four heats by a combined score of 50-34. Placing second were Chase Wilson and Cameron Clark. Taking third place were, Mark Contreras, Jared Cassidy, and Bobby Okvist. Done’s average wave score of 7.3 was tops for the competition.
The victorious boy’s long board squad was lead by Robert Guy’s first place finish with a 6.3 average wave score. Placing third was Andy Delorme.
The girl’s long board squad was lead by first place finisher Devyn Hartnett. Hailey Sandberg placed third for the winning team.
The winning girl’s short board team was lead to victory by first place finisher Kaleigh Gilchrist with an average wave score of 6.6
Next meet is at 56 th Street next Monday against undefeated San Clemente.
